Anuga Frozen Food Spotlight Brightens Koelnmesse Hall 4

It will be a big weekend ahead for the world’s buyers, sellers and manufacturers of food products, as the October 7-11 Anuga exhibition kicks off in Köln on Saturday. Held biennially along the Rhine River in Germany’s fourth largest city, the five-day fair always delivers a vibrant commercial environment conducive for frozen food marketers to conduct business.

anuga 02Presented as “10 Trade Shows in One” by the organizer, this year’s theme is again “Taste the Future.” More than 7,400 exhibitors from over 100 nations will be on the scene. Approximately 160,000 visitors from 190 countries will see what they have to offer, of which an estimated 62,000 will come from the retail and foodservice market segments.

Showing their stuff in Halls 4.1 and 4.2 of the Koelnmesse fairgrounds will be representatives from more than 500 frozen food companies. Other frozen products will be found at national, regional and various sector stands elsewhere within the expansive facility, which encompasses 284,000 square meters of space in 11 halls.

anuga 03Visitors may expect to see a raft of frozen food product launches displayed in the aisles, based on pre-show publicity profiles from manufacturers coupled with positive statistics from Innova Market Insights which charted rollout gains last year in various market sub-categories as follows: ice cream +27%; fish and seafood, +11%; vegetables, +7%; poultry, +7%; finger foods/hors d’oeuvres, +6%; meat products, +6%. Leading product group sales performances at the retail level were: cakes, pastries and sweet goods, +27%; fruit, +12%; pizza, +9%; meat substitutes, +3%.

From gourmet menu offerings and regional specialty dishes to healthy and functional foods, organic options, kosher and halal products, vegan and vegetarian fare, there will be something for everybody to see and sample at the Anuga fair. Among frozen food manufacturers exhibiting in Hall 4.1 are:

Anuga Executive Summit

On the October 6 eve of exhibition, starting at 18:30, Johannes Steegmann of Rewe and Matthias Heutger of DHL will serve as keynote speakers at the Anuga Executive Summit held in the Theater am Tanzbrunnen. The theme of the specialist conference and networking event, which is intended for invited guests only, is "Omni Shoppers Everywhere – Challenges of Digitalization for the Food Trade and Consumer Goods Industry." – Reported by John Saulnier
